Teaching about inhalants

Traditionally teaching about inhalants has not been a major focus of the drug education program for Years 7 & 8. However, current statistics show that it has become an extremely relevant issue for young people. Recent media publicity about the use of inhalants and specifically chroming also validates the need to give it a place in the PDHPE progam.

Getreel Teaching Unit

The GetReel teaching unit is designed to make it easy for teachers to bring the GetReel competition to the classroom. The teaching unit can be used as a stand-alone unit of work or teachers can use the ‘design a drug ad’ activity to enhance an existing drug education program.

This unit is a complete drug education program where students will participate in discussions, scenarios, role plays, problem solving, teamwork, research and self directed learning to develop thorough knowledge about illicit drugs and understand how risk taking, connectedness and resilience can influence their health and well being. GetReel fulfills key objectives of the Personal Development, Health and Physical Education curriculum and has cross-curricular outcomes for English, Design and Technology, Science, Studies in Society and Visual Arts.
