From
Sydney to Surfers – the Million dollar ride
for Youth off the Streets
On Saturday March 25, 117 cycling
enthusiasts will commence their annual journey
from Sydney to Surfers Paradise in a bid to help
Australia’s disadvantaged youth by raising
money for Youth Off The Streets.
Organised by Ken Robinson and Engadine Rotary
Club, the bike tour is now in its ninth year.
“Riders keep coming back because this
tour gives us the opportunity to do what we love
for a great cause. The Eastern seaboard coast
from Sydney to Surfers is one of the most spectacular
rides in the country and its made even more spectacular
with the community spirit that comes through helping
kids,” said Mr Robinson.
This year for the first time, two students from
Youth Off The Streets will join the riders aged
between 20 and 70, in cycling an average of 135
Kilometres a day over 7 days.
“This ride is no easy feat. Our students
and youth workers have been experiencing the discipline
of a gruelling endurance training programme. We
are exceptionally proud of their achievements
so far and very grateful to Ken and Rotary Engadine
for making it possible,” said Father
Chris Riley, CEO and Founder, Youth Off The Streets.
Now in its ninth year, Ken Robinson predicts
the riders fundraising efforts will bring their
total contribution to over $1 Million.
“Over the years these riders have made
a tremendous difference to our organisation’s
capabilities through their fundraising efforts.
We are most grateful to the riders and their sponsors
for all the hard work they have put in to help
our kids. We wish them all a safe and enjoyable
journey,” said Fr Riley.
Youth Off The Streets are very grateful to the
major sponsor of the tour, Macsim Fastening Systems,
who have given the riders an extra incentive to
raise money this year by donating a car to be
raffled off to participants with tickets issued
according to funds raised.
Youth Off The Streets would also like to thank
the tour’s other contributing supporters:
the Myer Foundation, publisher CCH Australia,
Westpac Bank, Australian Life Skills, Dreamworld
and White Water World Theme Parks, Optus, Toll
IPEC, Electrolux, Wilsons Hub Bikes at Albion
Park Rail, The Bike Shack at Nowra, Tailored Consulting
and PepsiCo Australia.

About Youth Off The Streets:
Youth Off The Streets is a community
organisation working for young people who are
chronically homeless, drug dependent and recovering
from abuse. We support these young people as they
work to turn their lives around and overcome immense
personal traumas such as neglect and physical,
psychological and emotional abuse.
Since opening in 1991, Youth Off The Streets
has grown from a single food van delivering meals
to young homeless people on the streets of Kings
Cross to a major youth specific agency providing
a wide range of services offering a full continuum
of care.
It is our goal that these young people will leave
our care drug free, with a high school education,
living skills and a full or part time job in hand.
