Riding
Around Australia
A YOTS supporter is about to head off for a two year adventure
horse riding around Australia, and is seeking sponsorship for
her travels. Heidi Douglas is leaving on the 1st October 2006
from Heallesville Victoria and travelling north on the Bicentennial
National Trail with 4 horses. When she gets to Townsville she
will swap 2 horses for 2 camels (because they drink far less
and they can carry 250 litres of water each!) and head west
across the Top End. Heidi will travel south west down the Canning
Stock Route and into Perth. She will then go east across the
Nullarbor Plain and swap back the camels for horses, and ride
along the Murray river to Echuca and then south to Melbourne.
If nothing goes wrong it will take Heidi about 2 years, as she
is planning to travel at an average of 35km a day and ride 5
days and rest 2. |
